About Us

Dale Hartt
Chief Investment Officer
All investment advisors are qualified to invest money, but only great investment advisors have the wisdom to invest money with integrity. My role as your advisor is to work with you to make important financial decisions. I will listen to your priorities, provide guidance that is relevant to your life, and create a course of action that accommodates your risk aversion and financial goals. I firmly believe that honesty, integrity, and transparency are the foundation of a strong relationship, and I will uphold those core values with you as we work together.
I am not like most investment advisors, and my path is a unique one. It is the reason I can keep a clear head in a volatile market, maintain high ethical standards, and be a reliable partner in your financial journey. As a child, I spent much of my time shadowing my grandfathers, both of whom created successful trucking businesses in rural Maine. They created strong bonds with blue-collar workers, they never wore fancy suits, and they’d prefer eating dinner with truckers over bankers. My grandfathers showed me the beauty of Maine and the importance of taking care of its people, and it is because of them that I believe in treating my customers like family.
After graduating high school, I joined the U.S. Navy and learned the fundamentals of teamwork and integrity from battle-tested leaders. Even in times of peace, life in the military is unpredictable and challenging. My experience with this adversity has translated well into the finance world by allowing me to use logic over emotions when making difficult decisions. Leaders are born in fire, and I strive to use my leadership skills to give you direction and confidence in your financial choices. Serving in the military has given me the ability to tell the raw and honest truth, and I will say what needs to be said if it’s in your best interest.
After four years of service in the military, I pursued my dream of becoming a professional mixed martial artist. In 2008, I signed with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), the largest MMA promotion in the world. The consequences of failure are dire when you are locked in a steel cage with a killer, so the competition is fierce. I needed to push myself to the limit both physically and emotionally, and I learned about risk with real consequences. Although I am now retired as a professional athlete, I continue my passion to this day by coaching others in martial arts. I love coaching because it allows me to make people better by using the experiences I gained in battle. I aim to do the same with you by giving you the knowledge, guidance, and confidence to make important financial decisions. Life is hard, and adversity can pop up when you least expect it. I want to help you prepare for those tough times by giving you optionality through investing. Having a nest egg can give you choices when there otherwise are none, and even a small contribution now is a start in the right direction.
Once my journey in the UFC was complete, I obtained two bachelor's degrees in finance and management at the University of Maine. Going back to college as an older student, I knew what I wanted out of my education. I was able to form a strong bond with my professors, and I took full advantage of their wisdom. They continue to be a part of my network to this day. During my senior year, I was the co-director of operations of the student investing team, which helped manage $3 million of the university’s endowment fund.
After graduating from the University of Maine, I chose to follow in my grandfathers' footsteps by starting a new business, Stillwater Investing. I am professionally licensed as a Series 65 representative through the North American Securities Administrators Association. In addition, I hold my Series 3 license through FINRA, enabling us to offer you alternative investments in commodities and futures securities. My goal as the chief investment officer is to treat every one of my clients like I would treat my grandmother, and I choose integrity over greed. I care about my neighbors and my community, and I dream of making people's lives better for knowing me. You worked hard to earn your money, and I want to show you the joys of earning passive income. Wall Street is intimidating, confusing, and volatile, but I have thrived in chaos my entire life. As your advisor, I will give you sound financial advice* in a turbulent market and turn those rough seas into calmer waters.
When I am not reading about finance or training in martial arts, I am most likely outside enjoying Maine’s scenery. I love whitewater paddling, surf-skiing in big ocean waves, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, adventure racing, horseback riding, and meditating. These hobbies challenge me, humble me, and allow me to enjoy nature’s beauty. I love competition, and I will suffer in all weather conditions to test myself and explore my limits. And if I’ve ever run you over with my canoe, I’m sorry.
